Since its founding in 1843, this majestic church has served as a beacon of faith and cultural center for German immigrants and later as the city’s beloved Hungarian Catholic Church. Its breathtaking architecture, adorned with stunning old paintings, ornate statuary, and notable historical personalities, has earned it a coveted spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

As one of the few consecrated churches in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Saint Mary of Victories features a magnificent high altar adorned with hundreds of sacred relics, a testament to the church’s commitment to preserving the traditions of the faith.

Join us for the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass (Third Sundays of the Month Only), and our periodic Latin Novus Ordo Mass celebrated with Gregorian Chant — one of the only such Masses in the St. Louis Archdiocese, conducted mainly in English, with a touch of Latin and Hungarian.

Our Heritage

Two immigrant communities. One sacred home. One faith.

German Founders

German Catholic immigrants established Saint Mary of Victories in 1843, raising this house of prayer as a beacon of faith in the young city of Saint Louis. Their devotion, craftsmanship, and sacrifice built the magnificent church that stands today.

Hungarian Family

Following the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, refugees fleeing Communist persecution found their spiritual home at Saint Mary of Victories. They brought with them an unbroken faith forged in suffering, placing the parish under the patronage of Saint Stephen — Hungary’s first Christian king.

A Prayer for Saint Mary of Victories

Our heavenly Father,
long ago you inspired our German forefathers in the Faith
to raise this beautiful house of prayer and sacrifice
in honor of your Son’s most holy Mother,
Our Lady of Victories.

Your Providence then brought many Hungarians here
under the co-patronage of the holy King, Saint Stephen.
We humbly place before you today
the spiritual and temporal needs of our historic church
and its present-day community.

Grant us the grace to discern your holy will,
and to fulfill it zealously as faithful witnesses to the Gospel,
here in the old heart of our city,
for as long as it may please your Divine Majesty.

Saint Mary of Victories, pray for us!
Saint Stephen of Hungary, pray for us!
Saint Joseph, pray for us!

Amen

Prayer composed by Fr. Brian W. Harrison, O.S.
